HDFC Bank customers can view their TransUnion CIBIL score through NetBanking, according to HDFC Bank's own guide. Anyone can also check it on the official CIBIL website. HDFC Bank says checking your CIBIL score is treated as a soft enquiry and does not affect your creditworthiness. You will need your PAN and your NetBanking login or your contact details.
What you need before you start
- An active HDFC NetBanking login, if you want to use the bank's route.
- Your PAN card number. HDFC's guide says this is used for identity verification.
- Your mobile number and email address. You may need these to verify your identity.
How to check CIBIL score on HDFC Bank
Using HDFC NetBanking
HDFC Bank confirms this route but does not publish the exact menu path on the pages we checked. Menu names can vary.
- Log in to HDFC NetBanking using your customer ID and password.
- Look through the main menu for a credit score or CIBIL score option.
- Complete any verification shown on the screen.
- Follow the screen prompts to view your score.
Using the HDFC mobile app
We could not confirm a credit score feature in the HDFC mobile banking app on HDFC Bank's official pages. Check the app menu for a credit score option. If there is none, use NetBanking, HDFC Bank's credit score page, or the CIBIL website.
Using the official CIBIL website
HDFC Bank's guide gives this route. It works for customers of any bank.
- Go to the official CIBIL website. Make sure it is the genuine site.
- Click Get Your CIBIL Score if you are new, or Login if you already have an account.
- Enter your full name, date of birth, address, mobile number, email address and PAN.
- Complete the identity check. You may be asked security questions or for identification documents.
- View your score on the dashboard. You can also see your credit report there.
How long it takes and what it costs
HDFC Bank's credit score page describes the check as free. HDFC also says that CIBIL often gives free access to your score once a year, and that there may be fees for additional reports or services (HDFC Bank). If you want only the free report, decline any paid plan shown on the screen. Self-checks do not affect your score, as HDFC Bank's page says it is a soft enquiry. RBI rules on credit alerts and errors
The Reserve Bank of India requires credit information companies to send you an SMS or email alert when your credit report is accessed (RBI circular RBI/2023-24/73, 26 October 2023). If you spot an error in your report, you can file a complaint. You are entitled to compensation of ₹100 per calendar day if the complaint is not resolved within 30 calendar days of first filing it (RBI circular RBI/2023-24/72, 26 October 2023). Either the lender or the credit bureau pays, depending on which one caused the delay. A lender pays if it does not send corrected data within 21 calendar days of being told. If both are at fault, they share the amount. If you find personal details like your birth date are incorrect, check how to change your date of birth in your CIBIL report online.
If it does not work
If your score is not showing, it may be due to a PAN mismatch or a lack of credit history. CIBIL says a score of NA or NH is not a bad thing. It can mean you have no credit history or too little to be scored, no credit activity in the last couple of years, or only add-on credit cards (TransUnion CIBIL). Check that your PAN card number is correct in your HDFC retail banking profile. If the portal shows an error, wait a few hours and try again. You can also contact HDFC customer support. For errors in the credit report itself, raise a dispute directly on the TransUnion CIBIL website.
