You can complete your ICICI Bank debit card PIN generation online using the iMobile app or net banking. You can also set it by calling customer care or visiting an ICICI Bank ATM. ICICI Bank says a PIN reset through iMobile or net banking is instant.
What you need before you start
Keep your new debit card ready to check the 16-digit card number, the expiry date and the CVV. Have the phone with your registered mobile number nearby to receive the OTP. For net banking, you also need the grid values printed on the back of your debit card. At an ATM or on a customer care call, you need your date of birth as registered with the bank. If you use net banking, type the official domain icici.bank.in to avoid phishing sites. Set your digital transaction limits
RBI rules say a new card works only at ATMs and card machines (with the card inserted) in India until you turn on other uses (rbi.org.in). So online, contactless and international use start off. You can turn these on and set limits yourself. In the iMobile app, open Debit Card, go to the transaction settings, and turn on what you need. Then use Set Transaction Limit. In net banking, go to Cards and Loans, then Debit/ATM Card, then Manage Card Limit. Menu names can vary. If you are interested in comparing features, you can explore other banking apps and neobanks to see how they manage card controls.
How long it takes and what it costs
ICICI Bank says a PIN reset through iMobile or net banking is instant. At an ATM, you first need the OTP to arrive by SMS. ICICI Bank's common savings account charges list debit card PIN re-generation as Nil, with effect from 1 May 2024. Wealth Management, Private Banking and Basic Savings accounts have their own schedules, so check the one for your account.
If it does not work
If you do not receive the OTP, check your network connection. Ensure your mobile number is correctly linked to your bank account. If the iMobile app shows an error, check for pending app updates in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. If the issue persists, call the ICICI Bank customer care number or visit your home branch. Always ensure you are using official channels and verify a payment link or QR code before paying if you are prompted to enter card details elsewhere.
