How to generate SBI ATM PIN by SMS, YONO or Net Banking
You can generate an SBI ATM PIN without visiting a branch using SMS, the YONO app, internet banking, or the customer care IVR. An SMS from your registered mobile number gets you a temporary Green PIN, while YONO lets you set the final PIN entirely online.

This SMS gives you a temporary Green PIN, which is a one-time password (OTP). SBI says it is valid for 2 days and recommends using it within 24 hours. You must change this temporary PIN at an SBI ATM machine to set your final PIN. To set your final PIN entirely online without visiting an ATM, use the SBI YONO app or SBI internet banking. What you need before you start
Keep these items ready before you begin the PIN generation process:
- Your new SBI debit card to check the last 4 digits.
- Your SBI account number to check the last 4 digits.
- The mobile phone with the SIM card registered to your SBI account.
- An active prepaid or postpaid plan that can send SMS.
- Your YONO app login PIN or internet banking username and password, if you choose the online methods.
Steps to generate your SBI ATM PIN
You can choose from four methods to set your PIN. The online methods let you finish the process at home, while the SMS and IVR methods require a final visit to an ATM.
Method 1: SBI ATM PIN generation by SMS
- Open the messaging app on your registered mobile phone.
- Type PIN followed by a space, the last four digits of your ATM card, another space, and the last four digits of your account number (SBI Quick Missed Call Banking, checked Nov 2026).
- Send this exact message to 8655807197.
- Wait to receive the OTP (your Green PIN) via SMS.
Method 2: SBI ATM PIN generation through YONO app

- Go to Banking, then Cards, then Debit Card, and choose your card.
- Open Security and tap Set/Reset PIN.
- Enter and confirm a new 4-digit PIN, then complete the OTP check (SBI YONO guide, checked Nov 2026). Menu names can vary by app version. If you are curious how this compares to other apps, you can compare money apps side by side.
Method 3: PIN generation using SBI Net Banking
- Log in to the internet banking portal at onlinesbi.sbi.bank.in.
- Click e-Services, select ATM Card Services, and click ATM PIN Generation.
- Complete the checks the site asks for, and select your debit card.
- Enter the first 2 digits of your new PIN.
- Submit the request, and SBI will send the last 2 digits of your new PIN to your registered mobile number.
SBI describes this route in its NRI FAQ, so menu names and steps can vary for your account.
Method 4: PIN generation through customer care IVR
- Call the official toll-free numbers 1800 1234 or 1800 2100 from your mobile and select your language (SBI Contact Centre, checked Nov 2026).

The final step for SMS and IVR methods
- Visit an SBI ATM machine. For the SMS method, SBI says to do this within 2 days and recommends within 24 hours.
- Insert your debit card and choose the PIN generation or PIN change option. Names on the screen can vary.
- Enter the temporary Green PIN you received on your phone.
- Type your new permanent 4-digit PIN to complete the process.
How long it takes and what it costs
YONO and internet banking let you set your PIN entirely online. SMS and IVR only generate a temporary OTP called a Green PIN (SBI Contact Centre, checked Nov 2026). You must then visit an SBI ATM to set your actual PIN.
SBI says card PIN change at an SBI ATM is free for SBI debit cardholders (SBI ATM Services, checked Nov 2026). Getting a duplicate PIN through a branch costs ₹50 plus GST in SBI's charges list as on 30 September 2024. SBI's NRI FAQ also lists ₹50 each time for PIN generation through internet banking, so check the current charges page before you use that route. SMS to SBI's 10-digit numbers is charged as per your mobile plan (SBI Quick Missed Call Banking, checked Nov 2026).
SBI says it never asks customers for their PIN or OTP, and you should not share them with anyone, including people who claim to be from SBI. Always verify a payment link or QR code before paying and learn how to spot a fake customer care number to keep your account secure.
If it does not work
If the SMS fails to send, check that your mobile plan can send SMS and that you typed the number 8655807197 correctly.
If you do not receive the Green PIN, confirm you are sending the SMS from the exact mobile number registered with your SBI account. SBI says the SMS must come from your registered mobile number (SBI Quick Missed Call Banking, checked Nov 2026).
If your mobile number is not registered or has changed, you cannot use these methods. Update your mobile number with SBI first. SBI lists three ways: internet banking, an SBI ATM, or a branch.
If you face errors on the YONO app, ensure the app is updated to the latest version or try the internet banking route on a web browser. For persistent issues, call the SBI toll-free helpline at 1800 1234 or 1800 2100.
